His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday paid an unannounced visit to an outlet affiliated with the Civil Service Consumer Corporation (CSCC) in Ain Ghazal, east of Amman.

His Majesty underlined the need to continue implementing measures to protect citizens from the hikes in commodity prices and to ensure sustainability in providing basic goods at CSCC markets at all times.

He toured the market’s divisions and talked to several shoppers, asking them about the quality of available goods and their prices.

CSCC Director General Omar Neirat briefed the King on the corporation, asserting its ability to provide basic goods to citizens at 10 per cent less than their market prices. He indicated that the CSCC has a network of 68 outlets in various parts of the Kingdom, noting that the profits stand at zero for essential items and do not exceed five per cent for other commodities.

The corporation’s monthly sales stand at JD12 million, he said, adding that the Ain Ghazal Market offers around 5,000 commodities with monthly sales of around JD1.5 million. It serves around 600 people daily.
