His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday ordered the government to provide the necessary financial support for military housing funds.

The King also instructed the government to increase the salaries of retired army and security personnel who are not covered in the Military Housing Law.

“The Arab Army was and will always be an establishment that represents the spirit of discipline, dedication and sacrifice to Jordan,” King Abdullah told Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit in a letter on the 91st anniversary of the Great Arab Revolt and the 86th anniversary of founding the Arab Army.

His Majesty said that work to improve the conditions of army and security personnel must continue in order to help them shoulder their national responsibility.

King Abdullah ordered the government to provide the necessary financial support for military housing funds for members of the Jordan Armed Forces to help them get suitable housing.

The King added, “We directed authorities to donate housing units in the Princess Salma suburb in the Zarqa area for that purpose.”

King Abdullah also highlighted the distinguished role of the armed and security forces in protecting the nation and preserving its stability as well as contributing to the country's development.

In his letter, King Abdullah said retired officers “should enjoy the same incentives and privileges granted to serving personnel to help them own means of transport”.

Last week, King Abdullah granted JD14 million in cash to the families of 1,697 military, security and defence personnel, who were killed in the battlefield. Also on Tuesday, the King directed the government to pay part of the salaries of the Jordan-based Palestine Liberation Army.

“We realize the difficult circumstance faced by members of the Palestine Liberation Army in Jordan as a result of Israeli sanctions on the brotherly Palestinian people — which prevented the Palestinian Authority from paying their salaries,” the King said.
