His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday inaugurated the Gaza Hashem Mosque in Ain Al Basha area.

King Abdullah checked on the 4,000-square-metre mosque's design, which is inspired by Islamic architecture, with domes and arches. Built at the expense of Hussein Attiyeh, the three-storey mosque can accommodate 5,000 worshippers.

The benefactor has said the mosque, built of marble and stone with two minarets, prayer spaces for both men and women and a house for teaching the Quran, was meant as a landmark in the Amman district to serve the local community and promote charitable work.

Joining the King at the opening ceremony were Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Abdul Salam Abbadi as well as the Chief Islamic Justice and other officials and local figures.
