King offers condolences over Darwish's passing

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday sent a cable to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas offering his condolences over the death of renowned poet Mahmoud Darwish, who passed away on Saturday.

The King expressed his and Her Majesty Queen Rania's deepest sympathies over the passing of the world-renowned author, who died from complications following open-heart surgery in a Houston hospital.

In the cable, the King described Darwish as a voice that embraced humanity and a cultural and poetic presence that transcended the Arab world and reached a global level.

Their Majesties also sent a cable of condolences to the family of the late Darwish, who was born in Al Birweh village in the Galilee.
