King meets Zoellick

Amman
10 July 2005

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday met U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick, who arrived in Jordan on a short working visit.

His Majesty and Mr. Zoellick discussed bilateral relations and the current situation in the Middle East, mainly the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and ways to reinstate security and stability in Iraq.

During the meeting, King Abdullah discussed the International Islamic Conference held last week in Amman, pointing out that Islamic clergy and scholars joined together in collectively renouncing violence and terror and declaring them illegitimate under the teachings and principles of Islam.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Farouk Qasrawi and David Hale, charge d'affaires at the U.S. embassy in Amman.
