His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday met on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum at the Dead Sea participants in the Young Global Leaders (YGL) Summit, which convened concurrently with the forum.

During the session, attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah and moderated by Newsweek's Christopher Dickey, King Abdullah stressed the importance of supporting youth to enhance their role in society.

"Youth in Jordan are a top priority and they receive all support to enable them to take part in decision-making," he added.

The King said that interest in youth targets education and described Jordan's reappraisal of the education system that began ten years ago with the launch of a national education initiative, which turned the kingdom into a model in the region.

"We seek through education to empower minds, as an ideal way to generate jobs, as we export from Jordan skilled teachers, technicians, lawyers and judges to a number of Arab countries," the King said.

"The main challenge facing youth in the region is creating job opportunities, " he added, stressing that peace and stability in the region was the key to prosperity and growth and would lead to jobs for "the growing numbers in the job market.

The King said that observing human rights was also a key priority for Jordan, and stressed the need "to do what we possibly can" to protect the rights of women and children.

The 5th GYL Summit, which began at the Dead Sea on May 13 with the participation of 200 world young leaders, discussed ways of bridging the gap in the global system and the prospect of devising new methods to address the global financial crisis.
