His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday commended World Bank programmes in support of the Kingdom’s development efforts and plans.
During a meeting with World Bank President Robert Zoellick in Washington, DC yesterday, the King discussed prospects for further cooperation between Jordan and the international body.
Zoellick underlined the World Bank’s commitment to continue providing Jordan with technical and development assistance through its 2011-2014 strategy.
The strategy, which was announced earlier, entails supporting the Jordanian economy to achieve sustainable development, alleviating poverty and unemployment, and providing the Kingdom with financial services, particularly through loans for investments and construction of infrastructure projects.
The strategy also stipulates assisting Jordan in the education, social security, transport, energy and water sectors among other areas.
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Jafar Hassan, Royal Court Adviser Amer Hadidi and Jordan’s Ambassador in Washington Alia Bouran attended the meeting.
