His Majesty King Abdullah II held talks with Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Budapest on Thursday, during which they discussed the need to step up international efforts to achieve stability and peace at the regional and global levels.

During bilateral talks followed by expanded ones, His Majesty said it was imperative to ensure implementation—in all its stages—of the agreement to end the war in Gaza, as well as to ensure the flow of relief aid to all areas of the Strip, and to build on the agreement in order to achieve comprehensive calm in the Middle East.

The King reiterated that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve just and comprehensive peace, stressing the importance of supporting Palestinians in obtaining their full and legitimate rights.

His Majesty warned that the ongoing Israeli attacks on Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem constitute a threat to the historical and legal status quo in the Holy City.

The talks—attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy—covered efforts to counter terrorism and promote dialogue between peoples, as well as the latest developments in the region.

Speaking about Jordanian-Hungarian relations, His Majesty expressed Jordan’s readiness to deepen cooperation in all fields, and build on joint agreements to stimulate private sector investment in both countries.

For his part, Prime Minister Orbán emphasised the importance of strengthening relations between Hungary and Jordan, noting his country seeks to work with Jordan to achieve stability and peace in the region.

Prime Minister Orbán also praised Jordan’s efforts to achieve stability in the region, its hosting of refugees and provision of services to them, its efforts to protect the Christian presence in the region, as well as the role of the Hashemite Custodianship in protecting Christian holy sites, expressing Hungary’s keenness to continue supporting the Kingdom within the framework of the European Union.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Hungary Mohammad Hindawi attended the meeting.
