King meets U.S. Under Secretary of State

His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday met with U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs William J. Burns and discussed latest developments in the Arab world and the Middle East.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings, also tackled ways to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israel based on the two-state solution, which is the gateway to regional peace and stability. The King and the U.S. official discussed developments in peacemaking in light of the Palestinians' request to the UN for recognition of their state and full membership for Palestine in the UN. King Abdullah stressed the U.S.’ important role in supporting the Palestinian people's right to an independent state on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The discussion also touched on Jordanian-U.S. ties and ways to cement them in various domains.
