His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday reiterated Jordan's support for the Palestinian people and the establishment of a viable and independent Palestinian state.

The King made his remarks at a meeting with the US Task Force on Palestine, headed by Ziad Assali, which is currently visiting the country.

King Abdullah said both parties in the conflict should return to peace negotiations, saying the Arab Peace Initiative offers an important opportunity.

He also voiced support for the task force and its efforts to promote a just solution to the issue.

The task force consists of Arab American activists who advocate the Palestinians' right to an independent state.
