His Majesty King Abdullah met late Tuesday with US Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner to discuss bilateral economic ties and means to support the Kingdom in light of the financial challenges it is witnessing.

During the meeting, attended by Prime Minister Awn Khasawneh, the King and Geithner discussed the possibility of providing assistance to Jordan under the Group of Eight (G-8) initiative, which is chaired by the US, particularly as its summit will be held in May.

The G-8 had pledged around $38 billion in aid to Arab Spring countries including Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco and Jordan in September last year to cover the period between 2011 and 2013.

King Abdullah highlighted the economic and political reform measures taking place in Jordan and the main challenges facing the Kingdom.
