His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday highlighted the importance of coordination between UN organisations and local institutions to guarantee the provision of humanitarian and relief services to vulnerable groups, particularly children.
During a meeting with UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake, attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania, King Abdullah outlined the condition of Syrian refugees in Jordan and the services they are receiving, noting the pressure the refugees have placed on the Kingdom’s resources.
The King called on the international community to continue supporting the Kingdom to enable it to provide services to Syrian refugees, particularly children.
Talks also focused on means to enhance cooperation between Jordan and UNICEF.
Lake commended Jordan's humanitarian role and the quality of services it provides to refugees.
UNICEF is covering the cost of sending Syrian children to the Kingdom’s public schools.
It is also helping the Ministry of Education cover the cost of enrolling Syrian students residing outside refugee facilities in the Kingdom’s public schools.
