King meets with Spanish PM

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday held talks with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero on regional issues and ways to boost bilateral ties.



The King said that the recently-held Sharm El Sheikh Summit was an important step towards pushing the peace process forward and resuming dialogue between Palestinians and Israelis. He stressed that Israeli withdrawal from Gaza strip should be part of the roadmap.



His Majesty reiterated Jordan's support to London Conference scheduled to be held next month to support efforts by Palestinian leadership to build its institutions and implement their reform programs.



On Iraq, His Majesty stressed that Jordan supports international community's efforts to rebuild Iraq and help its people protect their integrity.



Zapatero noted that his country share Jordan's stand towards regional issues and the need to put an end to violence and instability in the region.



On Euro-Mediterranean relations, the King said the Barcelona process forms a solid basis for strengthening joint cooperation and a genuine economic, political, social and cultural partnership.



The King and Zapatero stressed their keenness on developing and enhancing bilateral ties, noting that the Joint Jordanian-Spanish Committee constitutes a proper framework to involve the private sector in both countries in expanded cooperation. Talks also covered the possibility of extending additional assistance by Spain Jordan.
