His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday discussed with the Middle East Quartet Special Envoy, Tony Blair, developments in the Middle East, especially the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting King Abdullah emphasised the need for the international and regional communities to intensify efforts to put an end to the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
His Majesty discussed the repercussions of the Israeli offensive, stressing that it hinders peace efforts, poses a serious threat to regional stability and security, and deepens the suffering of the Palestinian people in an area that is already witnessing harsh humanitarian conditions.
The King reiterated the importance of the Quartet in restarting the peace process to find a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution arriving at the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
His Majesty also discussed the events in Gaza and the Syrian crisis with Alistair Burt, the parliamentary undersecretary of state at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, who is in Jordan as part of a Middle East tour.
Blair and Burt praised the King’s efforts to achieve peace and enhance stability and security in the region, commending Jordan’s initiative to better the military field hospital in Gaza, which is playing a part in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.
They pointed to the importance of continuing these vital efforts at these hard times, adding that the international community can rely on Jordan in this regard.
During the meetings, Blair and Burt agreed on intensifying communication with Jordan to help revive the peace process and put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people due to the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
His Majesty also outlined Jordan’s reform efforts during his meeting with Burt.
Burt said the UK supports all initiatives that lead to political dialogue and peaceful demonstrations, and denounces violence of all types.
The meeting was attended by Director of His Majesty’s Office Imad Fakhoury and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh.
