His Majesty King Abdullah on Friday met with a number of British political, economic, intellectual, academic and media figures in London and discussed means to find a just, lasting and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of international efforts to bring the Palestinians and Israelis back to the negotiating table to discuss all final status issues, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

During the meeting, which was organised by the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies, the King affirmed that Jordan will continue its efforts with all regional and international parties to support the Palestinians to restore their legitimate rights and establish their independent state on the basis of the two-state solution, international terms of reference and the Arab Peace Initiative.

His Majesty stressed that the latest regional developments should not shift focus away from the key issue, which is the Palestinian cause, noting the exploratory meetings held in Amman between Palestinian and Israeli negotiators to create a suitable environment to revive peace negotiations and discuss all final status issues.

On Syria, the King affirmed Jordan's support for UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan's mission to find a political solution to the crisis and stop the bloodshed there.

His Majesty underlined the importance of unifying Arab and international efforts to end the suffering of the Syrian people, noting that Jordan has hosted more than 125,000 Syrian refugees since the start of the crisis.

The King also outlined Jordan's efforts to carry out reform and development plans in various sectors. The roundtable discussion was attended by Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, His Majesty’s Office Director Imad Fakhoury, and Jordan's Ambassador to London Mazen Hmoud.

''We are leading a pioneering and institutional reform process that makes Jordan a regional model in light of political changes in the Middle East,'' the King said, noting the recent constitutional amendments and other steps taken to pave the way for political reform in Jordan.

British participants praised the King's vision to realise reforms in various fields and his efforts to reach peace in the region.

Earlier, the King met with leaders of a number of Jewish organisations in the UK and discussed Jordan’s efforts towards peace and stability in the Middle East. His Majesty affirmed that Jordan will continue to exert efforts to achieve the two-state solution.

His Majesty also reviewed the Amman Message, based on tolerance and moderation, noting that the Message stresses the importance of common ground among different faiths and peoples.

The King will meet tomorrow British Prime Minister David Cameron for talks on regional developments, peace efforts, the situation in Syria as well as a number of issues of common concern.
