King meets with Patriarch Kirill I

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday met with Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill I and an accompanying delegation visiting Jordan as part of a regional tour.

King Abdullah and the patriarch emphasised the importance of tolerance and dialogue between followers of different religions, which contributes to a message of peace and love all around the world.

His Majesty said that the Russian Pilgrims’ House at the Baptism Site strengthens the relations between the two countries, especially when it comes to religious tourism.

King Abdullah warned against Israel’s unilateral measures to Judaise Jerusalem, which he said threaten the Islamic and Christian heritage in the city.

The Russian patriarch praised Jordan’s role in protecting Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He described Jordan as a model of co-existence and dialogue between religions, valuing the stability and security of the Kingdom.

The meeting was attended by Patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine Theophilus III and Director of His Majesty’s Office Imad Fakhoury.
