His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday met with US Secretary of State John Kerry and discussed the efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis and the Syrian crisis.

During the meeting, which was attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, the King asserted Jordan's continued support for the peace efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state on the basis of the 1967 borders with east Jerusalem as its capital.

King Abdullah affirmed that Jordan will continue supporting the peace negotiations based on international resolutions, the two-state solution, and the Arab Peace Initiative and in coordination with all parties in a manner that protects its higher interests related to final status issues.

During the meeting, developments in the Syrian crisis were also discussed and the King stressed Jordan's stand that supports achieving a comprehensive solution for the crisis.

His Majesty pointed to the huge burdens that Jordan is shouldering as a result of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees and the pressures it causes on its limited resources.

The Secretary briefed the King on developments in peace negotiations and expressed the appreciation of the US administration for His Majesty's continued efforts to achieve peace in the region.

Kerry discussed with the King the US position on the Syrian crisis, noting that he appreciates Jordan's efforts to ease the suffering of the Syrian people. The Secretary affirmed that the US will continue its support to Jordan in its relief efforts to the Syrian refugees.

The meeting was attended by Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh, His Majesty’s Office Director Imad Fakhoury, His Majesty’s advisors and Jordan’s Ambassador to the US Alia Bouran.
