His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday discussed with Israeli President Shimon Peres the need to achieve a comprehensive peace that would bring security and stability to the entire Middle East.

King Abdullah said that peace is an interest and necessity for all states of the region, and stressed the need for prompt action to jumpstart negotiations leading to a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, within a regional framework.

During the meeting, held on the periphery of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East, which ended Sunday, King Abdullah stressed that a settlement should guarantee a comprehensive peace according to credible terms of reference, namely the Arab Peace Initiative.

Progress toward the two-state solution, the King emphasised, required clarity and candor concerning the principles on which peace should be based on to guarantee its sustainability.

King Abdullah noted that his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the previous Thursday was direct and frank, addressing all issues.

During the meeting, attended by Prime Minister Nader Al Dahabi and other Jordanian officials, Peres outlined his vision of regional economic development to support the peace process.
