King meets Iraqi prime minister

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday met with Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri Maliki to review means to enhance bilateral ties and discuss regional developments and issues of mutual concern.

During the meeting, King Abdullah and Maliki stressed the need for practical steps to boost ties between Jordan and Iraq and highlighted the importance of establishing cooperative frameworks, particularly in the economic and commercial fields.

The King reiterated Jordan's support Iraq's efforts to entrench security and peace, saying that Iraq's peace and security is a main pillar of regional stability.

Talks between the King and Maliki also covered developments in Iraq.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of forming an Iraqi government capable of meeting the Iraqi people's ambitions and needs and of building a better future for them, the statement said.

He added that Jordan will support all efforts to achieve Iraqi reconciliation and boost the internal unity of the neighbouring country.

For his part, Maliki expressed his appreciation for King Abdullah's support of Iraq's security and stability and said he is to work on enhancing cooperation with Jordan.
