Developments in the Middle East and relations between Jordan and Iraq were the issues on the agenda of His Majesty King Abdullah's meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki.
The two leaders discussed efforts to restore stability and security in Iraq. King Abdullah stressed Jordan's keenness to see Iraq achieve security and stability through Iraqi national consensus on the political process and said Iraq's stability and success is a Jordanian priority, expressing Jordan's support for the Iraqi government's efforts to extend the authority of the Iraqi police throughout the country.
King Abdullah told Maliki that Jordan was prepared to renew an invitation to host Iraqi religious leaders in Amman in cooperation with the Iraqi government and condemned all acts of terror and terrorist organizations that aspire to destabilize Iraq and the region.
The two leaders also stressed their keenness to develop bilateral relations in various fields, and agreed to develop the border points between the two countries, to serve passengers and facilitate their entry into the two countries.
King Abdullah stressed Jordan continued support for the reconstruction of Iraqi institutions.
The two leaders also discussed Israeli aggression against Lebanon and Palestine. The two leaders stressed the importance of an immediate ceasefire. They expressed their support for Lebanese and Palestinian peoples.
Maliki expressed appreciation for Jordan's efforts to restore stability and security in Iraq, adding that Iraq in cooperation with Jordan and Arab countries will succeed in national reconstruction.
The Iraqi premier briefed King Abdullah on the results of his recent discussions with officials in the US and Britain.
The meeting was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Ben Al Hussein, Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit, Director of His Majesty King Abdullah's Office Bassem Awadallah and Director of the General Intelligence Department General Mohammad Dahabi.
