King meets IEC president, members

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday voiced his appreciation of the efforts exerted by the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in administrating the 18th Lower House elections.

King Abdullah noted that the international community has testified to the integrity and transparency of the September 20 polls.

His Majesty, at a meeting with the president and members of the board of commissioners of the IEC at Al Husseiniya Palace, called for building on this success, so as to develop a model that can be implemented in future elections, whether at the municipal level or governorate councils.

For his part, IEC President Khaled Kalaldeh presented a briefing on the mechanisms the Commission applied during all stages of the parliamentary elections, until announcing the final results.

In this regard, Kalaldeh referred to the support offered by all relevant institutions to enable the IEC to execute its tasks as planned.

He also presented the highlights of the IEC’s plan to hold the municipal and governorate councils’ elections.

The meeting was attended by the director of the King’s office.
