King meets with Huawei rotating CEO

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday discussed the vital role of the ICT sector in Jordan with Huawei’s Deputy Chairman and Rotating CEO Guo Ping.

The ICT sector in Jordan offers investment incentives and capable human resources, which has made Jordan a regional hub in the field, King Abdullah said.

Discussions covered the importance of keeping up to date with rapid technological advancements, in addition to the Kingdom’s measures to merge into the international digital market and draw plans and strategies to develop the sector.

His Majesty commended the China-based multinational telecom company’s role in developing the ICT sector in the Kingdom through establishing centres for training and planning, in addition to developing networks for the empowerment of entrepreneurs.

Ping commended the launch of “Reach 2025” initiative which aims to help Jordan become similar to advanced countries in the field of ICT, which he said is also important for the national economy and society.

He said that Huawei will provide an open platform to serve software development companies and other firms in the ICT sector, as well as attract advanced applications from other countries into the Kingdom, to enable the vital sector to keep up with developments and contribute to building smart cities.

King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan, ICT and Public Sector Development Minister Majd Shweikeh and several Huawei executives also attended the meeting.
