His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday reiterated the importance of effective and speedy action to launch direct and serious negotiations to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with the support of the international community, especially the US.

The King made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from Friends of Jordan Caucus in the US Congress to discuss efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, and within a regional context.

The King emphasised that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was the core conflict in the region and that its solution should be based on relevant international terms of reference.

These points of reference affirm the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil and give Israel security guarantees and recognition by Arab countries, he noted.

King Abdullah also highlighted the positive impact of US President Barack Obama's speech in Cairo, where he pledged to build ties with the Arab and Muslim worlds based on mutual respect.

In his speech earlier this month, Obama also expressed US commitment to the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and achieving comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

He tolded the five-member team, headed by US Congressman Adam Schiff, that Jordan was looking forward to working with Obama according to a clear plan of action to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East as soon as possible.

At the bilateral level, King Abdullah said he was keen on boosting friendship and cooperation with the United States and commended US economic aid to Jordan.

Launched in 2007 at an initiative by democratic and republican representatives, the Friends of Jordan Caucus in the US Congress aims at fostering strategic ties and building a strong U.S-Jordanian partnership.
