King meets former US president Jimmy Carter

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday met with former US President Jimmy Carter, who is in the Kingdom as part of a regional tour.

Discussions covered efforts to realise peace in the Middle East and launch serious negotiations to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of a two-state solution.

King Abdullah underlined the need to intensify international efforts to create the appropriate environment for launching negotiations and advancing peace efforts.

The King also underlined the need for firm positions to halt unilateral Israeli measures that undermine propects for peace, especially settlement construction and other actions that threaten the identity of Jerusalem and its holy sites.

King Abdullah warned that Israel's actions threaten the security and stability of the entire region.

He also underlined the important US role in achieving the required progress in peace efforts, expressing his appreciation for Carter's role in efforts to realise global peace and stability.
