His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday met with foreign election observers and said that Jordan had successfully conducted parliamentary elections as a reflection of a strong will of Jordanians for participation in politics and decision-making.

King Abdullah said that yesterday's polls laid the foundations of a new era of parliamentary governments and consolidation of democracy, pluralism and partisan work.

His Majesty thanked the international observers for their effort during the vote which, he said, was conducted according to the highest levels of transparency under the supervision of the Independent Elections Commission (IEC).

The King said authorities should take observers' notes seriously to develop next electoral processes.

His Majesty added that he looked forward to the new Lower House to carry out its key national role in terms of legislation, efficient monitoring, and contribution to the national building process.

The King said the post-election period will start with consultations with parliamentary blocs to choose a prime minister and form the government.

His Majesty reiterated that a gradual reform process based on consensus, respect of pluralism and diversity is the guarantor and booster of reform.

The King noted that Jordan will relentlessly carry through with comprehensive political and socio-economic reform.

The observers reported that yesterday's polls were fair and that they carried out their job freely and without any hindrances.

They praised Jordan’s reforms and the measures taken by the IEC to ensure a transparent and calm atmosphere on Election Day.
