His Majesty King Abdullah II discussed Thursday afternoon with the President of the European Union Parliament Josep Borrell Fontelles the peace process in the Middle East and the necessity for all parties to go back to the negotiation table with a view to achieve just and comprehensive peace.
The two sides discussed, in the meeting which was attended by Minister of the Royal Court Sameer Rifai, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hani Mulqi and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Bassem Awad Allah, the international efforts to rebuild Iraq and hold elections in addition to the reform and development efforts in the region.
During an exceptional meeting with heads and secretaries of the 16 parties in the EU parliament, King Abdullah affirmed the importance of the EU Parliament role in the regional security and stability through activating the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis with a view to implement the roadmap. King also stressed on the necessity of the EU contribution in building the institutions of the Palestinian National Authority.
His Majesty the King expressed, during the two meetings, his appreciation for the role of Europe in supporting the peace process, its efforts in rebuilding Iraq and holding the over Iraq elections.
King Abdullah called on the international community to work in the team spirit with a view to give life to the peace process and implement the roadmap in cooperation with the Quartet Committee to establish the Palestinian viable state.
The King reiterated that the region, including Israel, will not live in peace and stability until the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is solved and as soon as possible.
The King affirmed the necessity of supporting the Palestinian leadership in this stage to hold the elections with a view to be an active partner in the peace process.
Concerning the situation in Iraq, King Abdullah reiterated that achieving stability in Iraq, rebuilding it and stabilizing democracy in it is an urgent issue for the region in particular and the world in general.
The King affirmed that Jordan will continue to support the efforts of the temporary Iraqi government with a view to secure holding the over Iraq elections.
On his part, Fontelles reiterated that Jordan plays a major role in the region to achieve just and comprehensive peace.
Fontelles described King Abdullah as the one who represents the voice of wisdom and rationality in the region. He also expressed the EU appreciation for King Abdullah's continued efforts to restore just and comprehensive peace in the region, affirming the necessity of exploiting the available chances to achieve peace in the region.
Fontelles hailed the pioneering role of Jordan in the field of reforms the thing that made Jordan a model example for the reform that comes from within and achieves the visions of the peoples of the region.
His Majesty the King briefed heads and secretaries of the EU parliament parties on the political, social and economic reform programs, which Jordan implement, and how to encourage people to participate in the political life and how to enhance the democratic march.
The King also affirmed that the Kingdom is implementing the needed plans and programs to achieve the sustainable development and alleviate poverty and unemployment.
King Abdullah urged the EU to support the reform initiatives in the region and support the initiatives that help youth in achieving the better future in this part of the world.
