His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday stressed that Jordan is working to achieve comprehensive reform in all fields through dialogue between all segments of society.

At a meeting with a delegation of US congressional aides, King Abdullah said that this dialogue is intended to boost public participation in decision-making processes for development and modernisation.

“We are moving along the right track in the reform process to achieve its goals, particularly political and economic reforms, to address the challenges and difficulties facing us,” the King said, adding the reforms should meet Jordanians’ aspirations for better living conditions by tackling poverty and unemployment.

In response to questions by the visiting delegation, King Abdullah said he is looking forward to seeing the National Dialogue Committee’s vision of the elections and political parties laws as they central to the country’s political life. He also expressed hope that political parties would consolidate in smaller numbers in the near future and represent the views of rightist, leftist and centrist currents in platforms that address the issues of concern to citizens, such as health, education and employment opportunities.

Referring to current political conditions in the Middle East and the peace process, King Abdullah said the international community should push the peace process forward and help end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict by establishing an independent and viable Palestinian state within the 1967 borders to live in peace and security next to Israel.

Also during the meeting, attended by Royal Court Chief Khaled Karaki and King's media adviser Amjad Adaileh, King Abdullah said regional developments should not constrain peace efforts. He also discussed the importance of US leadership in helping bring Palestinians and the Israelis to the negotiating table to address all final status issues and to fulfil Palestinians’ rights to freedom and statehood

US congressional aides commended Jordan’s important role in bringing about peace and stability in the region.
