The US is committed to supporting and building on Jordan’s efforts to return the Palestinians and the Israelis to the negotiating table, the US’ top diplomat said on Wednesday.

During a meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah in Washington on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the US will work with Jordan to ensure that the negotiating parties abide by the framework set by the Middle East peace Quartet. The King and Clinton discussed the latest developments in the region, including the latest round of “exploratory meetings” held in Jordan between Palestinians and Israeli negotiators.

Jordan has hosted since January 12 three meetings between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators.

King Abdullah briefed Clinton on the political reforms currently being undertaken in Jordan, stressing that the near future will include more reforms, affecting all segments of society.

Commending the steps that the Kingdom is taking to achieve reform, Clinton said the US will stand by Jordan and support it economically, especially in the midst of the difficult circumstances that the region is witnessing.

Discussions during the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein, also focused on means to enhance bilateral ties in the economic field.
