His Majesty King Abdullah said the Palestinian cause is still the core of the conflict in the region and called for a just and lasting peace in the region based on international resolutions.
During a meeting with a Bangladeshi Defense College delegation, King Abdullah affirmed the importance of re-activating the peace process through international channels and urged Arab and Islamic support at this critical stage. He said any peace process should lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The King also reviewed the regional situation and discussed the consequences of the war in Lebanon on the region. He warned that continuing instability in Iraq would be disastrous for the region, and said everyone should support efforts to achieve security and national reconciliation through the inclusion of all Iraqi social groups.
King Abdullah also emphasized that Islamic countries needed to coordinate among themselves to clarify the message and essence of Islam in Muslim countries and internationally. He said Jordan has been particularly active in this area through initiatives such as the Amman Message and the convening of the International Islamic Conference in Jordan last year.
During the meeting, attended by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Khaled Jamil Sarayrah, the King said Jordan and Bangladesh enjoyed strong ties and that there were many areas where bilateral relations could be deepened, especially in the economic field.
