King Meets Arab League Secretary General

His Majesty King Abdullah II, discussed at Bait Al Barakah on Monday with Arab League Secretary General, Amr Musa, proposals to develop and amend the Arab League Charter.



"Supporting and enhancing Arab solidarity and activating the role of the Arab League as an umbrella for joint Arab action, requires developing the league and introduce structural reforms to its charter," His Majesty said, during the meeting which was also attended by the Hashemite Royal Court Minister, Sameer Rifai and Foreign Minister Dr. Marwan Muasher.



King Abdullah praised the Arab League's step to dispatch a delegation to Iraq to look into conditions of the Iraqi people under occupation, and listen to the points of views of all parties and groups that represent it, on the future of Iraq and its relations with Arab countries.



Talks during the meeting also touched on developments in the Palestinian lands in light of the escalation policy practiced by Israel against the Palestinians.



Musa for his part, valued Jordan supportive role to the Arab League as well as its role in activating Arab cooperation. "Reforming the Arab league has become a necessity and the league has prepared draft proposals and ideas to reform its work, and has sent them to the Arab governments," he said, noting that these proposals will be discussed during the upcoming Arab summit.



The Arab League secretary general briefed His Majesty on the outcome of the visit of an Arab League delegation to Iraq. He said that the establishment of a Jordanian field hospital in Iraq is a very important step, indicating that the Iraqis highly valued this step which reflects Jordan's support to its Iraqi brethren.
