His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday met with representatives of Jewish American organisations where he stressed that injustice, the stalemate in the Middle East peace process and a loss of hope are major factors behind continued tension and violence in the region.
King Abdullah said developments on the borders between Israel and the West Bank, the Golan Heights and South Lebanon over the past two days should be a reminder to the international community of its important role in and responsibility towards the realisation of a just and comprehensive Middle East peace, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the basis of the 1967 borders and a just solution to final status issues, including refugees.
The King explained that if unresolved, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will escalate regional tension and negatively affect the future of its peoples.
During the meeting, he discussed the important role the Jewish American organisations could play in encouraging peace-making efforts that will lead to a two-state solution, which, he said, is the only solution that can achieve regional security and stability.
Reaffirming the importance of the US leadership in supporting peace efforts in the region, he said the opportunity to realise comprehensive peace should be seized.
