His Majesty King Abdullah on Friday met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Cape Town.

Discussions focused on ways to secure aid for the Palestinian people.

The King, who is in South Africa on a several-day visit with Her Majesty Queen Rania, stressed that Jordan would continue its contacts with the international community to ensure a continuous flow of assistance to the Palestinians.

King Abdullah told Abbas that he had issued directives to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) to dispatch a new shipment of relief aid to the Palestinian territories.

It would be the second relief shipment in 10 days.

On March 22, the JHCO dispatched a 27-truck convoy loaded with 400 tonnes of essential food supplies to the Palestinians to help them survive a severe shortage of essential commodities.

Abbas briefed the King on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the harsh economic conditions faced by the Palestinians.
