His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday stressed that Jordan will intensify its diplomatic efforts in the coming period to strengthen the position of Palestinian negotiators in the peace process.
During talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas following His Majesty's meeting with US Secretary of Sate, Condaleeza Rice, in Amman, the King called upon the Palestinians to score Mecca deal success, saying Jordan respect the willing of Palestinian people that manifested in Mecca pact between Fateh and Hamas.
Abbas described the summit with Rice and Olmert on Monday as difficult and tense, but not a failure, saying similar meetings would follow.
Also today, King Abdullah telephoned Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and called for reactivating the peace process with the Palestinians and overcome all obstacles that hinder the resumption of negotiations.
His Majesty also stressed the need for Israel to halt its digging operations near the Aqsa Mosque, describing the action as a dangerous threat to Muslim holy sites and an escalation of tensions in the region.
The King expressed similar concerns during his meeting with Rice, saying the international community is obliged to prevent Israel from violating the sanctity of the mosque.
