His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday met with Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) CEO Daniel W. Yohannes in New York.
During the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of a UN meeting on the Millennium Development Goals, King Abdullah discussed with Yohannes Jordan's plans to boost economic growth and enhance the country's economic competitiveness, in addition to other reform programmes.
The US-based MCC last week approved a compact to grant Jordan $275 million to finance major water projects in the Governorate of Zarqa.
The grant will be used to implement several local water projects in order to increase the quantity of treated water in the governorate, enhance the sewage system and services, and reduce the percentage of water loss.
Created by the US Congress in January 2004, MCC is a nonprofit government corporation, which works with some of the poorest countries in the world to reduce poverty by promoting sustainable economic growth.
Also on Tuesday, King Abdullah met separately with top executives from US and international companies to discuss cooperation between the Kingdom and the leading firms in the economic, trade and investment fields. He reviewed Jordan's plans for various mega-projects and investment opportunities available in the Kingdom.
