His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday departed for the Belgian capital Brussels on a two-day working visit.

During the visit, King Abdullah will meet number of heads of European countries, members of the European People's Party taking part in the party summit, which starts 15 December in Brussels.

The meeting will focus on means to boost Jordanian-European relations now that Jordan has obtained advanced status in its partnership with the EU.

Discussions will cover latest developments in the Middle East, and the challenges hindering peace efforts.

The meeting also will promote cooperation to promote the values of respect and coexistence, tolerance and understanding among followers of different religions, in light of UN General Assembly's adoption of an initiative proposed by Jordan to hold a “World Interfaith Harmony Week”, during the first week of February every year.

The King is also expected to hold talks with King Albert II of Belgium, Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme and senior officials, as well as President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Baroness Catherine Ashton.

His Royal Highness Prince Hashem was sworn in as regent.
