King lays foundation for civil protection academy

His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces, on Wednesday laid the cornerstone of the Prince Hussein Ben Abdullah II Academy for Civil Protection.



The academy, to be established by the Civil Defence Department (CDD) on 360 dunums in the Al Dhuhaibeh area east of Amman, will offer bachelors level programmes in civil protection, including fire fighting, engineering, disaster management and first aid, in accordance with advanced scientific programmes.



The academy, which will function as an international training centre, will also qualify CDD personnel to reach the professional level in dealing with accidents.



HRH Prince Feisal, Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit, Senate President Zeid Rifai, Royal Court Chief Salem Turk, Minister of Interior Eid Fayez and other senior officials and officers attended the ceremony.
