His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday laid the corner-stone of the National Jordanian Financial Centre which will comprise capital market institutions and brokerages of the Amman Stock Exchange.
King Abdullah unveiled a curtain on the building heralding the start of construction work on the project.
The JD50 million centre, located on 74,000 square metres of land close to the Jordan Securities Commission (JSC) headquarters in the Arjan area, will also include a training institute to be established by the JSC to function as a regional training centre.
The foundation stone of the JSC was laid by King Abdullah in 1999 and it was inaugurated in 2002.
The creation of the financial centre is in line with King Abdullah's vision to enhance Jordan's status as a distinguished regional financial centre that provides specialized services to dealers of capital markets in accordance with latest international standards and to create an investment climate that attracts Arab and international financial investments.
The establishment of the financial compound is also a pioneering step in regard to the implementation of the strategy to encourage investment in financial securities.
