His Majesty King Abdullah and Korean President Park Geun-hye held talks on Friday on bilateral ties, ways to bolster them as well as the latest developments in the Middle East and the world.

During a one-on-one meeting, before being joined by top aides, the two leaders underlined the depth of ties between the two countries, expressing keenness to bolster them in various domains. They also discussed launching joint investment projects in a number of key sectors, like the energy, water, transportation and services.

King Abdullah and the Korean president highlighted the many agreements signed between the two countries, while noting that such agreements should be built upon to increase the volume of trade exchange and investments between the Kingdom and the Asian country.

President Park noted the stability and security in Jordan, which is located in a volatile region, praising the King’s leadership and wisdom that helped Jordan remain a safe haven. The Korean president also praised the Jordan 2025 economic blueprint, noting that her country is interested in contributing to and investing in the projects mentioned in the blueprint, mainly in the health and educational fields.

Meanwhile, His Majesty affirmed that Jordan was keen to benefit from Korean expertise in nuclear energy and technical training, noting that Korea is a model to follow in these sectors.

The King also spoke about the Kingdom’s reform programmes and its attractive investment environment, urging Korean investors to come and invest in the Kingdom. Jordan, His Majesty added, serves as a gateway to regional markets.

On the political side, the two leaders stressed the importance of finding a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis; a solution that preserves the unity and sovereignty of the Arab state. In this regard, the King spoke about the burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of the Syrian crisis, most notably the huge number of Syrian refugees that fled their country to seek refuge in Jordan.

The Korean president, on her part, thanked Jordan for hosting the Syrian refugees despite its scarce resources.

On terrorism, His Majesty and President Park called for greater international efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, which have become a threat to the region and the world.
