His Majesty King Abdullah II held talks with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana on Wednesday, during which they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties, as well as enhance cooperation across various fields.
During the talks—attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy—His Majesty thanked President Tokayev for the warm welcome, affirming Jordan’s readiness and commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The King highlighted that the signing of new agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries provides a solid foundation for expanding partnership in sectors including trade, energy, healthcare, culture, industry, agriculture, food products, and other key sectors.
His Majesty affirmed that the Kazakhstan-Jordan Business Forum held during the visit, is a further step towards strengthening economic cooperation and consolidating partnerships between private sector institutions in both countries.
The talks also touched on regional developments, with the King reiterating the need to de-escalate and restore security and stability in the Middle East.
His Majesty commended Kazakhstan’s constructive role in promoting peace and stability, affirming that Jordan is committed to working alongside Kazakhstan to address regional and international challenges, and contribute to global peace efforts.
The King also commended President Tokayev’s efforts in leading his country towards further development at the regional and international levels.
For his part, President Tokayev praised His Majesty’s wise leadership, vision and distinguished role in promoting peace and security at the regional and global levels.
President Tokayev said that under the King’s leadership, Jordan remains a pillar of stability and moderation in the Middle East, and that the Kingdom’s voice carries special weight on the international stage.
He added that Kazakhstan considers His Majesty to be a great political figure who is sincerely respected throughout the world.
President Tokayev said relations between Kazakhstan and Jordan are experiencing their most vibrant and productive period in 30 years, and that Kazakhstan places great importance to strengthening mutual partnership with Jordan, which is their reliable partner in the Arab world.
He noted that, in addition to shared interests in the political and economic spheres, Kazakhstan and Jordan are linked by deep cultural and humanitarian ties, and both countries share values rooted in history, religion, and traditions of tolerance and mutual respect.
He added that the King’s visit to Kazakhstan will strengthen relations between the two countries and pave the way for elevating their partnership to new levels.
President Tokayev highlighted that one of the immediate outcomes of the talks was the signing of more than 15 cooperation agreements between institutions and companies in both countries in various economic fields.
The talks also covered developments in Gaza and the West Bank, with His Majesty reiterating the need to stop the war on Gaza and step up international efforts to put an end to the humanitarian catastrophe there.
The King warned of the danger of escalations in the West Bank, and attacks on Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, stressing Jordan’s rejection of any attempts to occupy or annex land in Gaza or the West Bank, or displace Palestinians.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, Jordan Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Khaled Toukan, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Hamzeh Al Omari attended the talks.
His Majesty and President Tokayev witnessed the exchange of three cooperation agreements and three memorandums of understanding between the governments of the two countries in the fields of maritime transport, healthcare, standards and metrology, nuclear energy and uranium mining, entrepreneurship, and archiving.
The King bestowed the Order of the Bejewelled Grand Cordon of Al Nahda (Order of the Renaissance), granted to heads of state, on President Tokayev, in recognition of his efforts and in affirmation of the distinguished relations between the two countries and their peoples.
Earlier, an official welcoming ceremony was held for His Majesty upon arrival at the Akorda Presidential Palace in Astana.
