His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received an invitation from Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani to participate in the Arab summit, to be held in Iraq at the end of March.
During a meeting with Iraq's Planning Minister Ali Shukri, who conveyed the letter of invitation, the King stressed Jordan’s support for Iraq as it prepares for the summit, which, he said, is hoped to be a success and an opportunity to enhance joint Arab action and Arab unity.
Iraq last hosted the summit in May 1990, three months before Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait.
At the meeting, the King reiterated Jordan’s full support for all efforts that can contribute to fostering Iraq’s security and stability.
The two sides also reviewed bilateral relations and means to strengthen cooperation, especially in the economic field.
Shukri stressed Iraq’s commitment to working for the success of the summit and facilitating the participation of Arab leaders. On bilateral relations, the minister said Iraq is keen on strengthening ties and cooperation with Jordan, underling the historic relations between the Jordanian and the Iraqi people.
