His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday inaugurated Sahab's first youth centres, which will provide training to young people in communication skills and social issues.

Located in Sahab, 20km southeast of Amman with a population of 120,000, the two centres, for young men and women, are fully equipped with computers, exercise equipment and multipurpose halls, among other facilities.

The King had earlier visited the district and issued directives to establish a number of service projects in the area.

"As there were no youth centres in the district, we used to spend time in the streets or coffee shops or asleep, but now we will have the option at least to come and work out, play table tennis or simply find a decent place to chat and socialise," Baker Maharmeh said.

The centres will offer computer courses and arrange workshops on health issues, according to workers at the centre.

During a visit to the district Thursday, King Abdullah also opened the Ohod Comprehensive Healthcare Centre, which officials said will serve 25,000 Sahab residents.

The 1,500-square-metre centre provides pediatric, dental, maternity and other medical services. It also includes an X-ray unit and clinics.

The King also inaugurated Grand Sahab Mosque, which can accommodate up to 3,000 worshippers.

The roughly JD2 million mosque was built upon Royal directives issued during the King's visit to the area in 2008.

The King also performed the noon prayer at the mosque.
