King holds talks with Saudi monarch

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday discussed with Saudi King Abdullah Ben Abdul Aziz bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region and the Arab world.

Discussions continued during an iftar banquet held by the Saudi king in honour of King Abdullah and focused on means to enhance solidarity among Arab and Muslim countries. Talks also addressed developments in Libya and other Arab countries and their impact on the overall stability of the region.

His Majesty expressed his appreciation for Saudi aid to Jordan, which he said will contribute to improving the Jordanian economy and help the Kingdom implement development programmes.

King Abdullah congratulated the Saudi leader for laying the foundation stone for a project to expand the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the largest such a project in the history of the holy shrine.

The discussions were attended by Royal Court Chief Khaled Karaki, King’s Adviser for Tribal Affairs Sharif Fawaz Zaben, King’s Media Adviser Amjad Adaileh, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Chief Islamic Justice Ahmad Hilayel, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Lt. General Mashal Zaben and Jordanian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Jamal Shamayleh, along with senior Saudi officials.

King Abdullah performed Isha and Taraweeh prayers at the Grand Mosque after performing Umra, or the lesser pilgrimage.

His Royal Highness Prince Feisal was sworn in as Regent in the presence of Cabinet members.
