King holds talks with Saudi monarch

His Majesty King Abdullah and Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz on Sunday discussed bilateral ties and the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly efforts to achieve peace in the region.

During the meeting, the two leaders voiced satisfaction with the current quality of bilateral relations, stressing their keenness to further cement ties in various fields.

Discussions also covered efforts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, within a regional context that guarantees the restoration of all Arab rights, particularly the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state on their national soil.

The two leaders highlighted the importance of intensifying the international community's efforts to achieve tangible progress towards the two-state solution in the peace process. They said the two-state solution is the only way to achieve regional security and stability.

In addition, the talks covered issues of mutual concern, especially activating joint Arab and Islamic action.

The talks were attended by Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi, the King's Adviser on Tribal Affairs Sharif Fawaz Zaben, Chief Islamic Justice Ahmad Hilayel, the King's Adviser Ayman Safadi, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Director of the General Intelligence Department Lt. General Mohammad Raqqad. Several princes attended the talks on the Saudi side.

Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah, the Royal Adviser to the Custodian of the Two Holy Shrines, who was also present at the meeting, saw His Majesty off at the airport.

Earlier in the day, the King performed Umra (the lesser pilgrimage) in Mecca.

He also performed the Maghreb, Isha and Taraweeh prayers at the holy shrine in Mecca.

Upon arrival at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah on Sunday, His Majesty was welcomed by Emir of Mecca Prince Khaled Al Faisal, Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah, Jordan's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Qaftan Majali and a number of high ranking Saudi officials. His Royal Highness Prince Feisal was sworn in as Regent in the presence of Cabinet members.
