The two leaders also discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly efforts geared towards bringing about peace in the region.

In remarks to the press before the meeting, the King underlined the deep relations between Jordan and Russia and expressed keenness to develop them at all levels.

His Majesty underscored the need to bolster efforts aimed at resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.

The King warned against the consequences of the Israeli unilateral measures, especially the settlement construction and measures that seek to alter the identity of Jerusalem, stressing Jordan's condemnation of the Israeli decision on Tuesday to establish new settlements in East Jerusalem. He said the decision hinders efforts to achieve peace.

King Abdullah said that these measures block the chances of peace, which is a prerequisite for regional stability and prosperity.

During the talks, which continued over a lunch banquet, the King highlighted the historical and pivotal role Russia plays in the Middle East, particularly in supporting efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israelis.

Talks will focus on efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and realising peace on the basis of two-state solution and within a comprehensive regional context.

The meeting will also cover mechanisms to boost cooperation between Jordan and Russia in various areas.
