His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on means to cement Jordanian-Russian relations and latest developments in the Middle East.

King Abdullah and President Putin expressed keenness to boost bilateral ties in various domains, including politics, economy, agricultural, tourism, energy and transport.

During the talks held over a lunch banquet in honour of the Russina President, the King highlighted available investments opportunities in Jordan and prospects for launching Russian private sector ventures in the Kingdom.

Putin said Jordan is an important partner to Russia, expressing his country's keenness to strike closer economic ties with Jordan.

On peacemaking efforts, the two leaders stressed the need for bringing about comprehensive peace in the region according to the two-state formula.

Speaking on Syria, His Majesty renewed his support for finding a political solution to the ongoing crisis in a manner that preserves Syria's unity and stability and puts an end to the bloodshed.

Putin said: "Our meeting today is an opportunity to discuss the Middle East and hot issue in the region." He commended Jordan's regional and international stances, hailing the King's wise vision in addressing various challenges facing the region.

The King said the opening of the Russian Pilgrims House at the Baptism site in the Jordan Valley will boost bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The Russian President thanked His Majesty and Jordan for allocating a plot for land to build the House.

His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi, Royal Court Chief Riyad Abu Karaki, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Director of His Majesty’s Office Imad Fakhoury and other senior officials attended the meeting. 

Form the Russian side, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Assistant to the President for International Affairs Yuri Ushakov, Chairman of the Committee on International Relations Alexei Buczkov and other top officials were present at the meeting.
