King Holds Talks with Romanian President

His Majesty King Abdullah II and Romanian President Ion Iliescu focused on ways to develop bilateral relations and political developments in the Middle East.



During the meeting Kin Abdullah affirmed Jordan's keenness to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Romania in political, economic and cultural areas.



Describing his talks with President as fruitful, King Abdullah said "I have the opportunity this evening to meet the President and it was a fruitful meeting where we discussed bilateral relations and ways to boost them in political, economic and cultural domains."



In press remarks following the meeting, King Abdullah urged the private sectors in both countries to take the lad and launch joint investment projects noting his meeting on Tuesday with Romanian business leaders and investors." We have concluded a number of agreements on trade, private projects and investment protection and on cultural cooperation," the King said.



"We also discussed the situation in the Middle East and agreed on the dire need to establish peace in the region," the King said.



He added he briefed the Romanian President on the outcome of the Arab summit in Tunis, where Arab leaders reaffirmed their commitment to reach a just, comprehensive and lasting peace with Israel based on international legitimacy and the UN resolutions. The talks also covered the situation in Iraq and the need for the international community to help establish a viable political system in the regime the country.



President Iliescu, who commended relations with Jordan, said the talks would help give new momentum for joint cooperation in various fields through signing more cooperation agreements.



Trade balance between the two countries is in favor of Romania.



Jordan exports to Romania $1.4 m. worth of goods and import $31.6 m. of Romanian products.



Iliescu expressed his country's worry about escalation in the Palestinian areas by Israeli military operations against the Palestinian people and highly appreciated King Abdullah's tireless efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
