His Majesty King Abdullah received on Monday US Middle East peace envoy George Mitchell, who briefed the King on the outcome of his recent talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
At the meeting, King Abdullah discussed with Mitchell efforts to push peace negotiations forward to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, recent developments in the peace process and steps that must be taken to achieve tangible progress in Palestinian-Israeli negotiations that would guarantee the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state.
The King underlined the importance of US efforts to end the conflict based on the two-state solution and within a regional context, as well as the removal of obstacles that hinder the launch of negotiations.
His Majesty also stressed the need to stop all Israeli unilateral and provocative measures that aim to change the identity of Jerusalem.
