King holds talks with Iraqi PM

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi on bilateral ties and the latest regional developments.

At bilateral talks and an expanded meeting that followed, attended by Prime Minister Hani Mulki, the two sides affirmed the strong brotherly ties between Jordan and Iraq, stressing their keenness to bolster cooperation and coordination in the political, economic, and security fields.

King Abdullah stressed Jordan's constant stance in support of Iraq's efforts to maintain its security, stability, territorial integrity, and the unity of its people, in accordance with its constitution.

His Majesty asserted that building a stable, secure Iraq is a cornerstone for the security and stability of the region.

The King expressed Jordan's full readiness to support Iraq, enabling it to become a more prosperous nation that fulfils the aspirations of its people and supports its Ummah.

His Majesty also congratulated the prime minister on the Iraqi army's gains against the Daesh terrorist group.

Prime Minister Abadi briefed the King on the Iraqi army's major advances against terror groups, and outlined Iraq's vision for the region's future, which is based on spreading development and security, rather than war and disputes.

Abadi also highlighted the Iraqi government's efforts to deal with challenges and reach national reconciliation.

The Iraqi prime minister expressed his country's appreciation of Jordan's positions, led by His Majesty, in support of Iraq's unity, security, and stability.

Talks also covered the latest regional developments and efforts to reach comprehensive political solutions to crises in the region, as well as efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic strategy.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Adnan Jundi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Adviser to His Majesty and National Policies Council Rapporteur Abdullah Wreikat attended the talks.

From the Iraqi side, Defence Minister Irfan Mahmoud Al Hayali, National Security Adviser Faleh Al Fayyad, Iraq's Ambassador to Jordan Safia Al Suhail, and a number of senior officials were also in attendance.
