King holds talks with heads of states in New York

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday met UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and discussed the organization's role to achieve peace and security in the Middle East and support Palestinians to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders.

At a meeting held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings, King Abdullah said the UN plays a pivotal role to maintain international peace and security and provide humanitarian assistance across the globe. He noted Jordan's peacekeeping troops and their efforts to present aid in conflict areas.

His Majesty highlighted the comprehensive reform efforts in Jordan.

The King also met with President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and the European countries' role in supporting peacemaking efforts between Palestinians and Israelis.

King Abdullah also held talks with a number of heads of states and delegations at the UN meeting. He met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories. The King reiterated his support for efforts exerted by Abbas and the Palestinian National Authority to establish an independent state.

His Majesty discussed with Lebanese President Michel Suleiman the latest developments in the Arab world and bilateral ties as well as means to bolster them in various domains.

King Abdullah discussed with President of Libyan National Transitional Council Mustafa Abdul Jalil the latest developments in Libya. The King underlined Jordan's support for Libyan people to build their future country, expressing readiness to provide all kinds of support to them.

His Majesty  also met with Austrian President Heinz Fischer , Dominican President Leonel Fernandez and President of Congo Joseph Kabila and discussed cooperation between Jordan and their countries.

The King attended a luncheon banquet hosted by the UN Secretary General for heads of states and delegations taking part in the 66th session of the UN.
