His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday discussed with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown efforts under way to achieve peace in the Middle East.

During the talks, held Tuesday, King Abdullah and Brown also addressed several other regional issues and matters of mutual concern, and reviewed means to develop bilateral cooperation, especially economic cooperation.

During his talks with Brown, the King stressed that the international community, especially the US and the European Union, need to exert more efforts to overcome the obstacles to the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations and ensure that all final status issues are addressed in peace talks.

King Abdullah said negotiations should achieve tangible progress in accordance with a well-defined and specific timetable that concludes in two-state solution to the conflict, noting that this is the sole means to achieve regional security and stability.

The two leaders also examined possible steps to increase economic cooperation between Jordan and Britain. The King elaborated on several economic megaprojects that Jordan has initiated, especially in the fields of energy, water and transport.

The meeting was attended by Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi, the King's Advisor Ayman Safadi, Foreign Minister Nasser Juded and Jordanian Ambassador to London Alia Bouran.
